Lynsey McVay appointed as Area Manager responsible for Community Safety

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service (TWFRS) has appointed Lynsey McVay as its new Area Manager, responsible for Community Safety. Lynsey joins from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, where she was Group Manager – Service Delivery.

Lynsey began her career as  a firefighter in September 2000 at Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, where she progressed through the ranks to the post of Temporary Group Manager. She moved to Cheshire FRS in May 2015, where she undertook the role of Group Manager responsible for the Operational Policy and Assurance department.

Commenting on her appointment, Chief Fire Officer, Chris Lowther said:

“Lynsey is a great addition to our senior team. She brings a wealth of operational and leadership experiences which will help us improve the services we offer and deliver across the communities of Tyne and Wear. This is a very challenging and exciting time for us, as we approach our first HMICFRS inspection. Lynsey’s breadth of knowledge and passion for protecting communities will help us to continue our progress as a very effective and highly efficient fire and rescue service.”

Lynsey’s new role will see her being responsible for operations, the control room, resilience, fire safety, technical services and prevention and education. She joins the Service’s three other Area Managers, Phil Clark, Nina Griffiths and John Pratt.

On her appointment, Lynsey commented:

“I am very excited and feel privileged to be joining TWFRS. My new role provides me with a great opportunity to help make a difference to the lives of the people in Tyne and Wear. I’m really looking forward to the new challenges ahead and working with a fantastic team of people”.

Lynsey joins TWFRS on Monday 21st May (today).
