Not everyone who works for the Fire and Rescue Service is involved in firefighting. Crucial support functions are carried out at our many locations across the region, with a variety of different skills employed in areas including Community Safety, Technical and Engineering Services, Information Technology, Finance and Human Resources, Clerical and Administrative staff, Accountants, Property Managers, Technicians and Drivers to name but a few.

Recruitment Process

For all posts (unless otherwise stated): 

  • New local government employees normally commence at the bottom of the salary scale

  • 37 hours per week; flexible working scheme in operation

  • Open to job share

  • New appointees will be enrolled in the Local Government Pension Scheme
  • Prior to successful appointment, candidates will undergo a pre-employment health assessment, including a substance misuse test
  • Uniform – All new employees are required to wear Service clothing issue which will be provided.
