Firework displays should be enjoyable and spectacular occasions – but they do need responsible planning. The good news is that there is straightforward guidance to help you.

The Health and Safety Executive website www.hse.gov.uk/explosives/fireworks/using.htm provides guidance for Organising Firework Displays and guidance documents for the safe storage of explosives.

The Explosives Industry Group (EIG) website www.eig2.org.uk/new-guides-for-firework-displays have also provides this guidance along with the useful document

EIG has taken over the production and publication of the obsolete HSE Guides – HSG123 (Working together on firework displays) and HSG 124 (Giving your own firework display) and has brought them up to date by including:-

  • Details of new firework types
  • Changes in the law
  • Advice on smoke issues
  • Advice on Risk Assessment and “Safety” distances
  • Advice on new European Standards and ISO Standards
  • Advice on “myths” that circulate within the industry
