Shaping the Future of Tyne and Wear Together
Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service (TWFRS) is inviting residents, businesses, partners and community organisations to help shape its priorities for the future as it launches a public consultation on its Community Risk Management Plan (CRMP) 2027-2030.
The CRMP sets out how TWFRS identifies and manages risks across the region, ensuring resources are focused where they are needed most to keep people safe.
The consultation, which runs from 9 October to 4 December 2026, gives people across Tyne and Wear the opportunity to have their say on how the Service plans to prevent fires and emergencies, protect communities, and respond to risk over the next three years.

Developed using incident data from our Community Risk Profile 2025 – 2030, community insight and operational expertise, the plan outlines a number of key priorities, including:
• Keeping communities safe through prevention and protection activities.
• Responding effectively to emergencies across Tyne and Wear.
• Supporting a healthier, safer and more resilient region.
• Investing in people, skills and technology.
• Delivering value for money while meeting changing community needs.
• Working collaboratively with partners to reduce risk and improve outcomes.
By taking part in the consultation, residents and stakeholders can help shape the future direction of the Service and ensure its plans reflect the needs and expectations of local communities.
Stewart Nicholson, Chief Fire Officer of Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, said:
“Our people are at the heart of everything we do. Our CRMP will guide how we serve and protect our communities between 2027 and 2030, and it is important that local people have the opportunity to influence those plans.
“The risks facing our communities continue to evolve, from increasing population demands to emerging environmental challenges and changing patterns of emergency response. We want to ensure our services remain effective, efficient and focused on what matters most to the people of Tyne and Wear.
“I encourage everyone to take a few minutes to share their views on our core areas of work including emergency response, prevention and protection, and help us shape the future of Tyne and Wear together.”
Why your views matter
TWFRS is committed to delivering services that meet the needs of local communities. Feedback gathered during the consultation will help inform final decisions and ensure resources are allocated in the most effective way to reduce risk, protect people and support those most vulnerable to emergencies.
