My interest in the fire service started when I became involved in Emergency Planning. I worked as an Emergency Planning Officer at Durham & Darlington Fire and Rescue Service and transferred to become Senior Emergency Planning Officer for Tyne and Wear with a remit of Training. I really enjoyed the training and development aspects of my role which prompted me to apply for the position of Workforce Development Adviser within the Recruitment Department at TWFRS.
I was successful at my supervisory Assessment Development Centre late in 2008 which opened up many more opportunities for me. Using the experience and knowledge I had gained as an Emergency Planning Officer and the understanding of the whole organisation I had gained from working in the recruitment team, I thought I would be ideally suited to the position of Contingencies Planning Officer when it was advertised.
I was successful in my application and started my new role in January 2009. My current remit involves mainly Business Continuity Management (BCM) which is about planning to respond to any incident that affects the Service’s ability to deliver its functions.
I am proud to work for the Service and have worked with some great people in all my roles, that’s what makes coming to work so enjoyable. It is a fantastic organisation for developing people and providing opportunities for career development.
