I discovered the job through an advertisement in the newspaper – I have a background in website management, marketing and communications, and I also have an Online Journalism degree so the job seemed like a good match to my education and experience. I was attracted by the interesting and diverse nature of the Fire and Rescue Service, as well as the prospect of working for an organisation that is so important to the community.
In my role I maintain the website and the Service Intranet. This involves adding news stories, updating and creating pages and liaising with several departments and functions to ensure that the correct information is published. I am also involved in developing both sites to include new features and embrace new technological trends. This includes the use of social networking sites to increase our communications reach.
I love working for such a fantastic organisation with a diverse range of people. Everyone is so friendly and helpful and it is a pleasure to come to work. I am always encouraged to develop my skills and abilities and I enjoy the challenges that every new day brings.
