Arson Task Force: Newcastle

The Newcastle Arson Task Force team are based at Colby Court Community Fire Station and have been actively involved in the reduction of deliberate fires within the Authority since 1996.

The team consists of Fire Officer Ian Turnbull, Police Officer Chris Summerell and Team Member Steve Webb:

Watch Manager Ian Turnbull
I have served with Tyne and Wear Fire & Rescue Service since June 1975. I joined the Arson Task Force in October 2005. My main role is to oversee the arson prevention work carried out, including boarding up, vehicle removal and refuse removal. I am also a trained fire investigator which allows me to identify causes of deliberate and unusual fires.

PC Chris Summerell
I have been a Police Constable with the Arson Task Force since May 2005. I have a multi-role within the Arson Task Force. Firstly that of liaison between the Police and Fire Service in cases of deliberate fires and secondly, to assist investigating officers with fire investigations. Also I develop strategies and operations, to target problem areas in line with the problem-solving model adopted by Northumbria Police.

Team Member Steve Webb
I have worked for the Arson Task Force since October 2006. My role involves representing the Arson Task Force at meetings and disseminating information throughout the service and community groups. I liaise with the other agency partners and collate information on deliberate fire statistics to identify hotspot areas. I also support the other team members by creating leaflets, presentations and other literature.
