This is based on a partnership approach to fire investigation. To put the ‘jigsaw together’, involves all or a selection of the following personnel investigating the crime scene at the same time, i.e. Fire & Rescue Service, Police, Scientific Support, Forensic Scientists, Hydrocarbon Detector Dog, Insurers. Collaboration and information exchange at this early stage reduces investigation times and helps verify information.
The Arson Task Force has access to criminal intelligence; expertise in crime scene management and investigation; enhanced knowledge of the prosecution procedure i.e. interviewing/preparing statements and court room etiquette; and specialist knowledge in the causes and development of fire.
Firefighters are trained in crime scene management and preservation which is essential, so that vital evidence is not missed during the early stages of an incident. A system of notification to Arson Task Forces of fire incidents at the earliest opportunity has been developed to aid investigation and detection of deliberate fires.
If you have any information about deliberate fires, you can contact us confidentially.
