Fire Safety Campaign: It takes seconds...

A woman looks upset in front of wording 'It takes years to build the memories... and seconds for them to go up in flames'.
It takes years to build up memories – and just seconds for them to go up in flames – that’s the warning from Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service in a new campaign which is aimed at helping people over the age of 60 keep themselves safer from fire.

Research has shown that if you are over the age of 60, you are more than twice as likely to be killed or injured in a house fire.

From 7 April, fire and rescue service staff, in uniform and carrying photographic ID badges, will be visiting people over 60 to offer home safety checks and fitting free smoke alarms where necessary.
