About Us!

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service (TWFRS) strive to improve fire safety awareness within all sections of our community. To assist us in achieving our vision of “Creating the Safest Community”, the Service has actively engaged a team of volunteers to work alongside, and in support of, members of staff.

TWFRS volunteers come from a variety of backgrounds and bring a wide range of skills and experience to the organisation. All our volunteers are valued because they give their time and skills freely to assist people in various activities. Volunteering with us is rewarding as it offers the opportunity to meet new people, undertake new challenges and experiences; and provides the satisfaction that comes from making a real contribution to the safety of communities in Tyne and Wear.

Since the first introduction of the TWFRS Volunteer Team in 2013 the volunteers have helped us engage with over 95,000 members of the local community, they’ve attended over 450 different activities and received approx. 2500 requests for home safety checks!
