Introduction to Selling to TWFRS Guide

A row of Firefighters' helmets

This guide has been produced to assist suppliers and contractors who wish to bid for contracts with the Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service and to provide an insight into our tender procedures for contracts for goods and services. It also provides an explanation of relevant legislation and service policies when tendering for contracts, and how this influences our requirements from potential service providers and contractors.

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service encourages competition and welcomes bids from new and established suppliers. Contracts must be awarded on the basis of obtaining best value for money.  The Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service does not discriminate between suppliers but does encourage participation from local SME’s.

The benefit of dealing with the Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service has to be fair, non-discriminatory, honest and professional in the way it awards contracts and chooses its suppliers and in any dealings with them.

If any company is interested in pursuing business opportunities with the Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, they should respond as requested in the tender advertisement or contact the officer responsible.  Tender/Quotation opportunities will be advertised on this site.  If the service deem the opportunities are of a significant value we will also publish an advert in the Supply2Gov website.   A list of current contracts along with expiry dates is currently being complied.

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service facilitate their procurement activity through an electronic tendering system called Bluelight ProContract.  This system allows requests for quotation and invitations to tender to be forwarded electronically to bidders and allows bidders to then submit their proposal electronically by return through the system.  A guide on how to register, free of charge, with this system is included below.  In addition to this guide further information regarding the system is also available from the following link www.bluelight.gov.uk
