RSS (Really Simple Syndication) enables any updates to the Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service website to be available in a list format - known as a 'feed'.
People can 'subscribe' to feeds using a special feed-reader (see below), and receive updates when any new content is added. For example if someone subscribed to the 'Job Vacancies' feed, they would be notified when a new job vacancy was added to the website.
The benefits of using RSS feeds are that people will not need to regularly visit the site to receive the information they desire - this information is instead sent to them in one central place.
